What it is about:
Dilbert has popularized the existential difference between "smart engineers" and clueless "pointy haired bosses". Becoming a manager is seen many times as abandoning your virtuous "techie" roots for the dark side in pursuit of a career. Peter Devenyi in this book does a masterful job of showing, through anecdotes and deep insight, how to see this progression as a "add" instead of a "replace", and how to develop your skills to become a successful leader.
Why it changed my thinking:
Having gone through that journey myself, this book put words to a lot of the intuitions I developed over time and gave me new ones to think about and to improve myself and how I mentor engineers and junior managers in their careers.
