The Visual Display of Quantitative Information by Edward R. Tufte

ree

What it is about:

"Excellence in statistical graphics consists of complex ideas communicated with clarity, precision, and efficiency" is the opening to the book, and the rest of it follows its advise to convey important ideas concisely and without fluff. This book is already a classic of how to organize complex ideas to be communicated, with very concrete design rules and describing the all important "ink-to-data" ratio to measure quality in a graphic.

Why it changed my thinking:

Anybody that has lived in the corporate world for any length of time has suffered from powerpoint and slide bloatware, fancy graphics that hide information and boiler plate statements that don't convey any useful insights. This is a book that should be read by any executive, marketing or product manager every few months to stay grounded in reality. It definitely changed the way I structure my presentations, and as a side effect, forces me to be more rigorous in my own thinking.
